Uganda’s top tennis player Duncan Mugabe has left for the US where he will undergo top level training at one of the training centers in San Francisco.

Mugabe’s father James Kasumba told URN on Wednesday morning that the youngster left on Monday night for San Francisco, where he will be based and also take part in a number of tournaments in the US. Kasumba says after winning bronze at the 2011 All Africa games in Mozambique, Mugabe was meant to travel back to the US but got stuck in Kampala.

Kasumba claimed that some people within the tennis circles did not want Mugabe to return to the US for their own selfish reasons. He said he was happy the young man had eventually returned to the training centre which helped him improve his rankings and also play well at the All Africa Games.

Mugabe, who finished second in the Kenya Open 10 days ago, will miss the prestigious Uganda Open Championship which takes place next month at the Lugogo Tennis Club.

Meanwhile in the on-going Tennis Ladder, Jeffrey Grosz defeated Sea Krepp 6-0, 6-3 on Tuesday as the event entered week eight. Kasumba leads the charts ahead of the other 31 players on the Ladder. Germany expert Harald Hechler is second, while Anders Aalbaek and Simon Peter Lwanjo are third and fourth respectively.
