There are several tourist attraction sites in the district but are undeveloped and not known to tourists. They include the King's Palace in Kihande cell Masindi town, Muro holly hill in Bwijanga Sub County, Sir Samuel Baker monument in Kijura cell and the existing tombs in Budongo Sub County.

Ritah Kirungi, the Masindi district tourism officer, says that some of the sites need to be developed so as to provide better services to tourists.

Karungi reveals that her office which has just been established has started identifying, documenting and will later embark on developing the sites before marketing them to tourists.

She says Murchison Falls National Park and Budongo forest reserve are the only tourist attraction sites known in Masindi yet many other tourist attraction sites are undeveloped and are lying idle.

Karungi explains that there are many things in Masindi that can boost the tourism sector in the district adding that there is need to sensitize the public and create awareness about the beautiful sites.

According to Karungi, some of the strategies will include organizing cultural events for different communities to showcase their cultural values, promoting Art and craft, establishment of tourism site centre as well as advertising the tourist attraction sites on internet.

Karungi believes that if developed and promoted, the sites will attract tourists which will be an additional source of income to the district and the communities.
