Police in Masaka are holding a Beach Management Unit Enforcement Officer (BMU) for involvement in death of his wife.

The suspect is Peter Jjuuko (40), BMU enforcement officer at Lambu landing site and resident of Lambu zone, Bukakata Sub County in Masaka district.

He has been arrested for his alleged involvement in death of his wife Ms Edith Namayanja, a businesswoman and a resident of Kinoni town board, Lwengo district.

Mr. Jjuuko’s arrest followed a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Namayanja.

Namayanja was killed, her body dumped in a banana plantation in Kinoni zone and the assailants made off with her Premio car registration number UAR A58D including its log book.

Police say their preliminary investigations point to Jjuuko. The couple were in the midst of a messy separation with Jjuuko accusing Namayanja of adultery.

Mr. Obed Tumuranye, the Deputy Southern Region Criminal Investigation Officer, confirms Jjuuko’s arrest. He adds that two of Namayanja's relatives have also been arrested to help police with their investigations.

He indentifies the suspects in custody as Mr. Luswata Mukasa (46) a resident of Sseke village and Mr. Jamadah Muwanguzi (30) a resident of Kinoni town board in Lwengo district.

Before his arrest, Jjuuko had denied any knowledge of who could be behind his wife's death. He had recorded a statement with police to that effect.

Namayanja was killed on March 1st, 2013. Her death shocked the community as she was quite well known in Kinoni.

The suspects are being held at Masaka Central Police station as they wait to face charges of murder as investigations into the matter goes on.
