A 27-year-old mother of seven has been abandoned by her husband after producing three sets of twins. Rose Iliu says she gave birth to her first born child in 2004 before getting three sets of twins in 2006, 2008 and 2012 respectively.

Iliu is a resident of Kisenyi cell, Pamba ward in Western Division, Soroti Municipality. She told URN that medical doctors have warned her that if she continues producing there is a likelihood she could give birth to triplets.

Her husband Solomon Enyasu abandoned her two years ago for fear of shouldering the burden of bringing up so many children and he has reportedly married another woman. Iliu explains that, after she gave birth to the third set of twins her husband who is a boda-boda rider abandoned her and his whereabouts are not known to her.

Her first born Simon Omoding is now in primary three at Adoku Primary school,  Serere district. From her first set of twins, Esther Apio is primary two in Amuria district while her sister Susan Acen died. She has been unable so far to send any of the second set of twins, Rapheal Ocen and Vivian Apio, to school. Her last set of twins are Lucy Apio and Vivian Acen.

She admits that her relatives have abandoned her because they are bitter that she dropped out of school and failed in her first marriage. Iliu is now seeking support from well-wishers, charity organizations and government. She says whoever wishes to help can reach her on cell phone number 0789 005 16.

The sigle mother now earns a living by selling cassava chips. She noted that her small business picks up during school days since she lives near one of the hostels for the boys of Soroti Municipal Secondary school.

She explained that, with her little income she has failed to provide her children with the necessities like food, good shelter, clothing, medicare and education. She says on a good day she can earn a profit of 3,000 shillings, hardly enough to cater for her daily needs and pay rent.

Iliu noted that on the worst day she gets a profit of 1,000 shillings and she has to find a way to utilize that small profit to feed the children and keep the business running.

Asubu told URN that almost every month he receives a report of a man who has abandoned his wife.

Elvis Ajoku 22, Iliu’s neighbour who has known her for about two years, noted that it seems the single mother does not have relatives because she has never seen them visit or send any assistance to her in the last two years.
