Lwengo police are holding a woman in connection to the death of her husband under mysterious circumstances. 32-year-old Mariam Nakaliisa, a resident of Magato Village in Kyazanga town council is accused of conniving with their neighbor Santos Kayemba to kill her husband Muhammad Kiwanuka on Sunday. The couple has three children. John Muwonge, the Maggato LC I chairperson says that the couple has had a long feud over allegations of infidelity and disrespect.  He explains that a few months ago, Nakaliisa left her marital home for sometime because of the disagreements with her husband Kiwanuka.

He says after Kiwanuka found it difficult to look after their three little children, he got a Rwandese woman identified as Betty Natukunda to help him. John Muwonge explains that immediatley Nakaliisa got the information she rushed back claiming that Natukunda would mistreat her children. As a result, Kiwanuka returned a house for Natukunda to avoid trouble between the two women. However on Sunday, Nakaliisa raised an alarming saying her husband died of poisoning. Kiwanuka reportedly died just an hour after he had just had lunch with Nakaliisa. Police rushed to the scene an immediately enrolled the services of Dr Isaiah Kiiza, which led to the discovery of wounds on the deceased’s head and neck. As a result, police picked Nakaliisa to help with investigations.

It is suspected that after killing Kiwanuka, Nakaliisa and her accomplice poured jik, a washing detergent in his mouth and body to make it appear like he died of poisoning. Kenneth Gumisiriza, the OC Kyazanga police station and CID officer Edward Mulera say that Santos Kayemba was also picked up after investigations pointed to his involvement in the murder. He says that they have opened a police file number SD 12/30/06/2013 as investigations into the matter continue. However, both suspects have denied killing Kiwanuka. Nakaliisa says that she couldn't kill the father of her three children despite their past disagreements while Kayemba says he was not around the village when the deceased was pronounced dead.
