Luweero FDC Supporters Ask Muntu to Step Down for Besigye

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) supporters in Luweero have asked General Mugisha Muntu to step down in favor of Retired Colonel Dr. Kizza Besigye for next year's Presidential elections.

The party has set July 1st and 2nd for nomination of as aspirants seeking to contest as the party's flag bearer for the 2016 presidential polls.

Although the campaigns are not yet open, recently the FDC party president Major General Mugisha Muntu announced that he will offer himself for elections as party flag bearer.

But his declaration has attracted mixed reactions from supporters in Luweero district with majority asking him to let Dr. Besigye Tussle it out again  with President Yoweri Museveni who was declared sole candidate for  the ruling NRM.

Ashraf Sserunkuma an ardent FDC supporter in Luweero town council claims Gen Muntu is less popular within the party and outside over what he calls unclear leadership style.

Sserunkuma  says  Muntu  looks soft yet current politics demands for a man like Kizza Besigye who is courageous and sticks on issues.

Swaibu Nsamba Gwojolonga the FDC Party chairperson for Katikamu South says Kizza Besigye who has conted in the past three elections is tested and has ability to pull masses with his moving speeches.

Nsamba says that Muntu is good but Kizza Besigye is when it comes  to tussling it out with NRM's likely flag bearer President Yoweri Museveni.

Samuel Wasswa the Secretary General for FDC Party in Luweero town council says that Besigye is also a fighter, determined and trusted by the public than Muntu.

But Bwanika Bbaale the Luweero district FDC party chairperson defends Muntu saying he is performer with good obilization skills. He says Muntu has revamped pparty structures in villages.

Bbaale says Muntu and Besigye among others should be allowed contest in a competitive election rather than discouraging other aspirants.

But General Mugisha Muntu scoffs at critics and says that he has exceptional skills to enable the party win the presidential seat.

He also added that he has leadership qualities that include conflict resolution, promotion of equality, democratic and non-discrimination among others.

Dr. Kiiza Besigye is yet to announce whether he want to contest against Museveni again.
