Sporting activities in Gulu district have been severely affected by poor funding, according to the district officials. Gulu District Education Officer, Charles Amone, says the sports department was allocated only 3.6 million shillings in the current budget to cater for its annual activities. Amone however says that with two million shillings already spent to facilitate athletes to the national competition in Hoima district, it would be difficult to meet the financial needs of the remaining sports activities this year. In addition to poor funding, Amone says that sporting activities have also been crippled by acts of hooliganism in the schools. //Cue in: iIn this year's budget# Cue out: i#so this is a challenge.i// Charles Okwakalwak, the district Social Services Committee chairperson, says the district has for years failed to send a player to the national team-the cranes.
