Kagezi was shot dead on Monday evening in Kiwatule, a city suburb when she stopped to buy vegetables by the roadside.

Several mourners eulogized Kagezi as a hard-working and caring mother who handled sensitive tasks in the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions. Police chief Kale Kayihura told mourners that he had specifically requested Kagezi to handle the prosecution of 30 Busoga murder suspects.

Kayihura said he had no doubt that the killers targeted Kagezi for the ‘professional' manner in which she handled matters involving organized crime and terrorism. A day prior to her death, Kagezi had recommended that the state issues arrest warrants for ADF leader Jamil Mukulu and Australian based cardiologist Dr Aggrey Kiyingi.
