Kitgum Catholic School rejects Protestant Head Teacher

Administrators in Kitgum girls' primary school have rejected the appointment of Benson Aleng as the school head teacher on account of his religion. They have since locked his office and denied him access to the school premises, Uganda Radio Network has learnt.

The School located in Kitgum town council is a predominantly Catholic facility.

Aleng, who was posted to the school on July 5th, this year, tells Uganda Radio Network that he has never enjoyed the comfort of the office he was appointed to. He added that his duties have been frustrated since he cannot access his Office.

Kitgum District Education Officer Celeste Lomakio Odonga acknowledged receiving reports on the newly posted head teacher being locked out of his office. He condemns the treatment that the head teacher has been subjected to but hastens to add that the matter will be handled swiftly.

He added that they have already scheduled meetings with the school management committees to address the matter in order to minimize the impact of the development on other school activities.

Kitgum Resident District Commissioner, Captain Santa Okot Lapolo downplays the move saying religious differences should not be a basis for anyone's rejection even in a faith-based institution.
