The International Associations of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has offered  Benjamin Kiplagat a wildcard to take part in the 2015 World Championships.

The event that attracts top athletes in the world will be hosted at the National Stadium of the Chinese capital Beijing August  22-30.

Beatrice Ayikoru, Secretary of the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) told URN on Wednesday that Kiplagat's special invitation now brings the number of Uganda's athletes for the world event to 11. "This is good news because Kiplagat has been working hard to try and qualify in 3000m steeplechase," added Ayikoru.

He explained that IAAF normally gives special invitations to athletes who have been close to qualifying while considering their seasonal seeding. "They required a certain number of athletes for that race and since they could not raise it then wildcards were offered for those that were close to qualification," he added.

World marathon and Olympic gold winner Stephen Kiprotich is part of Uganda's team will lead Uganda's team that leaves on August 17th. The team is still busy training in Bukwo ahead of the event.

The will only have one female athlete Juliet Chekwel, while triple Commonwealth gold medalist Moses Ndiema Kipsiro will miss the event after failing to qualify. Phillip Kipyeko, Joshua Cheptegei and Timothy Toroitich are also part of the team.
