Kinyara Sugar Works Security Personel Sacked

Kinyara sugar works has sacked all its security personnel. David Byensi, the Human Resource Manager of the Masindi-based sugar factory says, all the 104 security staffs employed under the security department have stopped working today. Byensi says effective January 2008, Kinyara Sugar works installations will be guarded by Saracen Uganda Limited. He explains that the decision to outsource security personnel was reached during a management board meeting. The meeting resolved to terminate the internal security personnel to cut costs and improve efficiency. But a source at Kinyara sugar works says that some security personell have been behind the rising spate of fuel thefts at the factory. Mid this year, Christian Foo-Kune, the outgoing General Manager said high fuel thefts were indirectly doubling the company's operational costs.
