The King of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV has rallied his subjects to participate in next week's Tooro Conference.

Meeting with members of the organizing committee on Friday at his palace in Fort Portal, King Oyo asked the subjects to take part in the conference because it is a forum through which they will give their views on how to develop the institution.

The delegation was led by Professor Edward Rugumayo, the chairperson of Tooro Elders Forum commonly known as Isazi Lya Tooro, which is organizing the two day event.

King Oyo assured the members of the committee that the recommendations from the conference will be implemented. Oyo also hailed the elders forum and Tooro Kingdom authorities for coming up with the conference, which he said will be an annual event.

Preparations for the conference have in the past weeks been marred by disagreements on who should take lead in the organisation. Initially the idea of the conference was the brainchild of Tooro cabinet ministers led by Bernard Tungwako, the Tooro Kingdom Premier.

However in September, members of the elder's forum took over the organisation on grounds that kingdom officials hastily organized the event and left out key stakeholders. The forum also resolved to change the name from Tooro Conference to Tooro People's Conference.

Polly Kateeba, a member of the organizing committee says that the small fights on who should organize should put aside and subjects have to sit and come up with a solution of developing Tooro.
