Reverend Julius Kyarikunda was accused of impregnating Medias Akankwasa, a member of his flock and abandoning her with a child. Akankwasa alleges that in July 2013, Kyarikunda visited her home to inform her family about the death of one of their relatives. According to Akankwasa, he mother told the priest she wouldn't be able to attend to the funeral due to lack of money.

Kyarikunda reportedly offered to give the transport and asked to go with Akankwasa to pick it from his home. Akankwasa claims that on her way home, the priest followed her up to Ikamiro playground pestering her for or sex. According to Akankwasa, she initially rejected the advances, but gave in after Kyarikunda promised to take the necessary precautions not to impregnate her.

She explains that she approached the priest for help after realising months later that she was pregnant, but he distanced himself from her and warned her against disclosing the matter to anybody. Akankwasa kept silent for some time but decided to report to police, when Kyarikunda refused to provide for the child.

The news of the sex scandal caused uproar in the church forcing several Christians to demanding the sacking of Kyarikunda. The Kigezi Diocesan leadership suspended the priest to pave way for investigations that culminated into his dismissal.

Rt.Rev. George Bagamuhunda, the Bishop Kigezi Diocese says the decision is aimed at sending a strong message to all priests who deviate from the responsibilities.

Cue out...of the tribunal:"//

He however, called on Christians to support the clergy in ensuring that they lead responsible lives. The embattled priest couldn't be reached for a comment on the matter. This is not the first time a priest is defrocked in Kigezi diocese over sex a scandal.

In September 2007, Reverend Kenneth Byaruhanga was also defrocked for allegedly impregnating a minor.
