Kibaale DPC Ordered To Impound Night Campaign Items

Director of Police Operations, Haruna Isabirye has ordered the DPC Kibaale to impound any items used during campaigns at night. This follows the death of two people in campaign incidents at night.

The Director of Police Operations, Assistant Inspector General of Police Haruna Isabirye has ordered the District Police Commander of Kibaale to impound any items used for night campaigns. Isabirye issued the order after getting information that electoral violence is on the increase in the district, where some aspirants have been campaigning at night.

He wants police in the district to ensure that electoral laws are followed by all aspirants and the public.

Isabirye has been in Kibaale district for three days now following a spate of violent incidents, in which two people have lost their lives during campaign rallies organized by politicians at night. 

The Director of Police Operations also warned politicians against flouting the public order management act. He ordered police to take action against whoever will organize rallies, meetings or any other public gatherings during campaigns without notifying police.

Some of the aspirants complained about the use of radio stations in the area to malice others, which has caused tension. Denis Namara is aspiring MP for Buyaga County West.

George William Bizibu, the aspiring LC 5 blamed the violent incidents to the information
gap. He said that much as NRM stopped campaign rallies for some posts, defiant candidates have been campaigning without any penalty.
