Police in Rwimi Town Council in Kabarole are searching for an LC1 chairman accused of cutting off two toes of a suspected thief. Lauben Ensi-Eyesiga, the LC1 chairman of Kasenda Central, unlawfully arrested 29-year-old Sylvia Tusasiibwe. He accused her of stealing 50 kilograms of beans and two sacks of groundnuts. The officer in charge of Rwimi Police Post, Steven Baryemanyisa, says Eyesiga locked Tusasiibwe up and beat her repeatedly with an iron bar. He says the LC1 chairman then cut off Tusasiibwe's toes and left her in a bloody heap. Sylvia Tusasiibwe was rushed to a clinic for medical care. Her assailant fled the scene and is still on the run. The police say once Eyesiga is caught, he will be charged with causing grievous bodily harm. Case details are also being compiled to charge him with attempted murder.
