In short
Prof. Joy Kwesiga, the Vice Chancellor Kabale University has welcomed the temporarily suspension of the staff strike, saying the administration is working jointly with the university council to address the concerns of the staff.

Kabale University staff have temporarily called off their strike and opted to seek the intervention of parliament and president, Yoweri Museveni.

The decision to suspend the strike, which has been on since July 12th and petition parliament was reached in a meeting convened on Wednesday at Kabale University hall.

The strike came days after more than 40 lecturers petitioned the university council chairperson, Manzi Tumubweine through their umbrella body, Kabale University Academic Staff Association demanding for their salary arrears for the past four months.

In their July 7th petition, the lecturers also demanded an explanation why most of them haven't been considered for inclusion on the government payroll for the 2016/2017 as the university transitions from a private to a public university despite teaching for so many years.

On Wednesday, Steven Rugumanbaju, the Vice chairperson of Kabale University Staff Association told our reporter that they also called of the strike in consideration of the interests of students. He explains that they need the president's intervention since the university seems to be ill prepared.
