The Officer in Charge of Kyanamira Health Centre III in Kabale District Justus Akankwasa has been released on police bond after a weekend in custody.

Akankwasa was arrested on Friday on the orders of Kabale Resident District Commissioner-RDC Darius Nandinda for allegedly absconding from duty.

Nandinda says the arrest followed reports that health workers at the facility were rarely on duty, a practice that left patients stranded.

Akankwasa who was released on Monday evening told reporters moments later that his arrest tantamount to harassment. He added that he had permission from the office of the Health in charge for Ndorwa East Sub District to report late for work on the fateful day.

Dickens Bindeeba, the Kabale District Police Commander says that Akankwasa is required to report to police after every two days as investigations into the matter continue.
