Jinja Mayor Summoned for Questioning

Police in Jinja have summoned the Municipality mayor Baswari Muhammad Kezaala for questioning over his alleged involvement in inciting violence.
 
Police have linked the mayor’s summons to the clashes at Jinja central market on Monday that left several people injured, including Jackson Kabusi, the market chairman.
 
The Mayor is accused of stirring the confusion that triggered the clashes.
 
The violence occurred on Monday evening, when a group of vendors attacked Kabuzi, accusing him of refusing to relinquish his office to the new committee chaired by Charles Busulwa.
 
Jonathan Musinguzi, the District Police Commader, says Kezaala will be produced in court together with seven other suspects currently detained in  Jinja Central Police Station.
 
The Mayor’s phone is however currently switched off, and its not yet clear whether or not he will respond to the summons.
