The Contested piece of land is located along the shoreline of Lake Victoria close to Mayanzi Village and Kigungu Pentecostal Church in Kigungu Church Zone. The land in contention is said to be registered in names of Konte Muwonge, who, according to sources, transferred powers to Gerald Mutebi in a swap deal.

However, it is alleged that Mutebi has summoned some of the residents in private meetings, luring them to give up their plots for his yet-to-be-built ice-plant. Irene Tusiime, one of the area residents, told Uganda Radio Network that Mutebi is blackmailing her into giving up the land to pave way for his business interests.

Edward Sserugunda, the chairperson of the fishing community, said, residents have lived in fear of eviction for more than a year, adding that the anxiety might push them into violence if the leadership does not move fast to address their fears.

One of Mutebi's employees Emmanuel Kisa says blocking the ice plant will be a disservice to the community.

However, Entebbe Municipal Mayor Vincent Kayanja admitted that someone had secured ownership of the land title where the landing site is located. He, however, promised to investigate the circumstances under which the title had been acquired. He further noted that such a title faces cancellation under the existing laws, given its proximity to the lake.

When contacted on phone, a respondent on Mutebi's known phone line declined to comment on the matter, saying Mutebi was out of the country.
