Police in Hoima is holding three men for attempted highway robbery and illegal possession of government stores. The suspects are Francis Ssewankambo, Kassim Tumusiime and Charles Mujumba all residents of Masaka district. Zurah Ganyana, Midwestern Police spokesperson says that the suspects were arrested by operatives from the Rapid Response Unit while attempting to stage a highway robbery along Kibaale-Mubende road. She says that the suspects were found in possession of three pairs of army uniforms, two torches, cello-tape rolls and pieces of bark cloth that the suspects were planning to use to make fake guns. Ganyana says that in their statement to police that suspects claim that hey got the uniform from a UPDF officer whose identity she declines to reveal for fear of jeopardising investigations. She says that the suspects have also confessed to having engaged in several highway robberies in central Uganda. Ganyana says that the trio will be charged with attempted robbery and illegal possession of government stores once investigations are complete. In 2006, the suspects were arrested for robberies and released on court bond.
