The Hoima Chief Magistrates court has remanded four Mechanics to Kiryatete Government Prison.

The mechanics are Godfrey Kiiza, Godson Baguma, Deo Kizza and Samuel Wabyona all operating on Kwebiiha road in Kahoora division Hoima Municipality.

They were arrested on Thursday afternoon while protesting the forceful eviction of more than 300 mechanics by Majimoto Auctioneers and Court Bailiff.

During the eviction, the mechanics resisted the eviction exercise and started pelting stones at Majimoto officials prompting anti-riot police to fire live bullets and teargas to disperse the rowdy mechanics.

On Friday, court presided over by Moses Kagoda Ntende, the Hoima Chief magistrate charged the mechanics for causing public Nuisance under section 54, 57c, 68 and 61 of the Public Health Act Cap 281.

The suspects pleaded not guilty and were remanded until May 16th, 2019.

On April 25, 2019, Hoima Chief Magistrate's court issued an order authorizing Majimoto Auctioneers and court Bailiff to evict the mechanics on behalf of Hoima municipality.

Municipal authorities argue that oil waste originating from the motorcycles being repaired by the mechanics was spoiling the newly constructed road under the Uganda support to Municipal Infrastructural Development-USMID-Project.

The authorities say that they secured a piece of land in Kiryatete Industrial area in Kahoora division where they intend to relocate the mechanics.

However, the mechanics vowed never to go to the new site citing lack of space, toilets, security and eating places.
