Joseph Kajabago, the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party mayoral candidate for Hoima municipality has adopted the tactics of street preachers as the campaigns gain momentum. Kajabago seeks to unseat the incumbent Mayor and National Resistance Movement party candidate, Grace Mary Mugasa.

The other candidates are Francis Atugonza, the former Interim Mayor of Hoima Municipality and the Municipality Youth councilor, Brian Kaboyo, both independents. As the candidates comb the municipality for votes ahead of the March 3rd polls, Kajabago moves from street to street in the municipality on a  on a pickup truck or  motorcycle to address voters regardless of whether or not  they are listening to him.

After speaking, Kajabago invites questions to establish whether the voters have heard his campaign message or not. At some points people converge to listen to him, while in other areas residents just look at him. He also rides his a motorcycle to various boda boda stages in the municipality to speak to cyclists. Unlike in town, Kajabago uses the door to door campaign strategy in villages.

Although the street campaign strategy may not allow the candidate to determine his support, Kajabago says the method is less costly compared to rallies where some voters come expecting money and drinks. He reveals that his method is friendly to voters as they don't have to leave their places of work to listen to him.

Kajabago is seen as an underdog in the mayoral race compared to his rivals. Despite being new to politics, Kajabago believes he will ride on the mass FDC support to win the polls. Kajabago's campaign strategy has already won him some support.

John Kyaligonza, a bodaboda cyclist at Kiyembe boda boda stage, says Kajabago's campaign strategy is already an indicator that he is a people's leader. Kajabago is a secondary school teacher. He's also a sportsman and manager of National Big League team, Hoima Boma Young Football Club.
