Gulu District Khadi Sheikh Musa Khelil has advised Muslim youths within Acholi Sub-region to desist from being lured into armed conflict.

Sheikh Khelil observes that Acholi sub region has been through very turbulent times in the hands of the Lord's Resistance Army-LRA rebel outfit and that the region does not need to see a repeat of the rebellion that lasted over two decades.

He advised the youth in the region to take advantage of the prevailing peace in the region to venture into productive activities, shape their economic status and uplift their livelihood.

Sheikh Khelil made the remarks while delivering his message to hundreds of Muslim faithful's during the Eid-El-Fitr Prayers held at Gulu Public Primary School Play grounds in Gulu Municipality, Wednesday.

He further advised youths to stay away from people who may influence them with money to wage war against government adding that the youths should participate in protecting the country rather than breeding instability.

His warning comes at the backdrop of recent attacks at Gulu Central Police Station by gunmen who shot dead a Uganda People's Defense Forces soldier, and a police officer. Two other soldiers and a female police constable were injured in the attack.

The attack in which police later arrested 10 suspects was reportedly aimed at freeing Uganda People's Congress Party Deputy National Secretary for Mobilization Dan Oola Odiya who was being detained then at the Police station.

Oola was arrested early last month on allegations of masterminding another attack on Opit Local Defense Unit (LDU) in Lakwana Sub County Gulu District where unknown gunmen killed two people, and seized eight guns.

Odiya has since been charged with treason at the Gulu Magistrate Court and remanded to Gulu Central Prison along with two other suspects. He appears in court on July 13 this year.
