Government Designates Committee Chairpersons

Ruth Nankabirwa, the Government Chief Whip has named chairs of several Standing and Sectoral committees of parliament. Standing and Sectoral committees are in line with rule 148 and 176 of the parliament rules of procedure.

 
According to the list presented to parliament chaired by the Deputy speaker, Jacob Oulanyahon Wednesday afternoon, Amos Lugoolobi, the Ntenjeru North MP of parliament is new chairperson of Budget Committee. He is deputised by Wamakuyu Mudimi, the Elgon County Member of Parliament.
 
 
Robert Kafeero Ssekitoleko, the Nakifuma county MP and his Kigulu North counterpart, Fred Bwino Kyakulaga are the chairperson and vice chairperson of the Committee of Science and Technology respectively. Judith Alyek, the Kole Woman MP is the chairperson of the Committee of HIV/AIDs. She is deputised by Evelyn Chemutai, the Bukwo woman MP.
 
 
Mitooma Woman MP, Jovah Kamateeka is the chairperson of the Human Rights committee where she is deputised by Safia Nalule Jjuuko, the National PWD representative. Nakaseke North MP, Syda Bumba Namirembe is the chairperson of the National Economy committee where is deputised by Hoima Municipality MP, Lawrence Bategeka.
 
 
Ongaro Obote, the Kilaki County MP is the new chairperson of the Rules, Privileges and Discipline committee and deputized by Kitagwenda County MP, Agaba Abbas. Rubanda East MP Henry Musasizi will chair the Finance Committee and deputized by Jinja district Woman MP Joy Katali. Bukuya County MP Dr. Michael Bukenya is the chairperson of Health committee and deputized by Moroto district woman MP, Logil Anne.

 
Independent Kampala Central Member of parliament, Muhammed Nsereko is chair of the Equal Opportunities Committee.  He is deputized by Eastern PWD representative, Hellen Asamo. Independent Kitgum Municipality MP, Beatrice Atim Anywar is the vice chairperson of the committee of Gender while Maruzi County MP, Maxwell Okora is the Vice chairperson of the ICT committee. 

 
Okora is a Uganda People's Congress legislator. The appointment of opposition and independent legislators by the government whip has not gone down well with some NRM MPs. Nantume Egunyu, the Buvuma Woman MP, said the appointment of opposition and independent legislators in disregard of NRM party legislators goes against the spirit of multiparty politics.

However, Government chief whip Ruth Nankabirwa said that she had consulted the MPs before designating them.
