Uganda's Simon Gonza managed to secure a draw against Aderito Pedro (Angola) in the fifth round at the on-going 2016 Africa Chess Individual Championship in Tick Hotel on Thursday.

Gonza who is placed 16th on the ranking after five rounds has collected 2.5 points. Another Ugandan player Farouk Fauza also managed a draw against Alberto Manuel (Angola).


It was Algeria's Arab Adlane who shocked highly rated Egyptian player Samy Shoker. "This is a very sweet win because Shoker is a very good player and getting victory against him is good," said Adlane.


The win places Adlane among the leading players with four points. Egyptian players El Gindy Essam and Adly Ahmed who drew 1.5-1.5 and other players tied a 4 points each together with Kayonde.


Three players Shoker (Egypt), Hesham Abdelrahman (Egypt) and Nigeria's Bomo all have 3.5 points. Ssegwanyi has three points together with Ben Magana (Kenya) and South Africa's Daniel Cawdery.

In the women's category Egypt's Wafa Shrook has maintained her unbeaten run with five points after five rounds. Another Egyptian player Elamsary Eman is second with two points. Four players Latreche Sabrina (Algeria), Laubscher Anzel (South Africa), Hamza Amira (Algeria) and Lorita Mwango (Zambia) all have three points each.
