Geria Leads day one of Scrabble play offs

National top seed, Richard Geria, recorded a narrow six wins to emerge victor of day one of the world scrabble qualifier play offs that kicked off on Sunday at Bakuuli club in Kampala.
 
Despite sharing the lead of six wins with second seed, Edwin Mugisha, and Greens Kamugisha, Geria managed to dominate the play recording a high game score of 615 against Mugisha’s 275.
 
The visibly excited Geria said he was surprised that his rival Mugisha lost four out of the first six games as he struggled to gain momentum to record the same wins on the day.
 
Geria says his biggest challenge on Tuesday and Wednesday will be to handle pressure and record more wins.
 
Action continues on Monday and Tuesday, in games expected to select the country's representative at the World Scrabble championship In Warsaw Poland next month.
