G20 leaders' decision to facilitate food aid welcomed

The World Food Program (WFP) has welcomed the decision by leaders of the major economies known as the G20 to make it easier for hungry people around the world to get food assistance.

 

The G20 leaders met in Cannes, France on Friday, to discuss the global economic and financial crisis.

 

In their final declaration, they agreed that food purchased by WFP for humanitarian purposes will not be subject to export restrictions or extraordinary taxes.

 

WFP says the G20 agreement will ensure the flow of food assistance to vulnerable people hit by high food prices, hunger and humanitarian crises

 

The G20 leaders also committed themselves not to impose such restrictions in the future.
