Four Nominated For Luweero Woman MP By- Elections

Shortly after the nomination of Nalwanga, Jotham Taremwa, the Electoral Commission spokesperson said they were not expecting any other candidates since all those who had picked forms had been nominated.

Rebecca Nalwanga, the National Resistance Movement candidate has been nominated bringing to four the number of contestants vying for the Luweero District Woman MP seat.  Nalwanga is seeking re-election after losing the same seat in 2011 after High court nullified her previous victory over voter bribery.

She tried to reclaim the seat in the November 2011 by-election but suffered defeat to Brenda Nabukenya, the Democratic Party candidate. As a result, Nalwanga successfully petitioned court challenging the election of Nabukenya on grounds that the election didn’t comply with electoral laws.

Alex Komuhangi, the Luweero District Electoral Commission registrar declared Nalwanga elected at 10:05am this morning.

The other candidates are DP’s Brenda Nabukenya, Faridah Namubiru and Ramulah Kadala both independents. Shortly after the nomination of Nalwanga, Jotham Taremwa, the Electoral Commission spokesperson said they were not expecting any other candidates since all those who had picked forms had been nominated.

He warned candidates against inciting violence in their campaigns saying they risk being disqualified from the race. Immediately after nomination, Nalwanga called for reconciliation with all have foes saying she was ready to reclaim the seats.

Richard Tadwong, the Minister in Charge of general duties and Political mobilization says Luweero is the birthplace for the ruling NRM Party and government adding that, they will do everything possible to win the seat.

Abdul Nadduli, the Luweero NRM Chairperson says unlike the previous election they have will have few rallies and engage in door to door campaigns to reclaim the seat. By time of filing this story Nalwanga was leading a procession in Luweero town council accompanies by her supporters.
