George Patrick Bageya, the former Iganga LC V chairman is dead. He died last evening in a motor accident involving his car at Nasuuti village in Nambaale Sub County in Iganga district.

George Patrick Bageya, the former Iganga LC V chairman is dead. He died last evening at Nasuuti village in Nambaale Sub County after his car of registration number UAF 088Q crashed into an Isuzu truck  number UAJ 232H that was loaded with firewood. His son Michael Bageya who was traveling with him in the same car was injured critically and rushed to Mulago hospital.

Michael Bageya sustained a fractured rib, injuries on the head and other body parts. Steven Kaija, the OC CID Iganga says that they are still investigating the cause of accident adding that preliminary investigations show that the accident was a result over speeding.  

Bageya served as Iganga LC V chairman from 1996 to 2001 before he lost to Asuman Kyafu in hotly contested election.
He was later appointed Busia Resident District Commissioner. During his tenure as Iganga LC V chairman Bageya referred to himself as the “President of Iganga” a title that set him on tough power struggle with the late Basoga Nsadhu, the former information minister.
