The National Resistance Movement-NRM party Electoral Commission has extended the campaign period for contestants battling for election as party candidates for the position of Woman Member of Parliament and LC V chairperson in newly created districts. The new districts are Bugweri, Kassanda Kikubbe, Kapelebyong, Kwania and Nabilatuk.

Dr. Tanga Odoi, the NRM party Electoral Commission Chairperson, says the Commission decided to extend the campaign period following numerous complaints from candidates, saying the allocated time wasn't sufficient. "During the NRM EC consultative meetings with stakeholders in the seven districts, some candidate raised issues concerning the length of the campaign period and how it was inadequate for them to traverse the entire district canvasing for votes," he said.

The joint candidate's campaigns started on July 30th and were expected to end on August 07th, 2018 followed by elections on the next day. However, Dr. Odoi says they have decided to extend the campaign period to August 12th and hold polls on August 14th, 2018. He also released a tentative roadmap for NRM primaries for the Sheema North Parliamentary seat.

The Sheema North MP seat fell vacant following the successful election of the incumbent legislator, Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye as Sheema Municipality Member of Parliament. According to the roadmap, the aspiring candidates will use August 7 to 9th to express their interest and pick the nomination forms.

This will be followed by the nomination of candidates at the party Electoral Commission headquarters from Thursday 9th to Saturday August 11, 2018. The candidates will hold joint campaigns from Sunday 12th August 25th 2018 while polling will take place on August 27th.

The Commission will use between Friday 17th and Tuesday August, 2018 to update, clean and produce a voter's register. He warned non-nationals especially refugees to desist from participating in the local polls.
