Five houses have been destroyed in Gayaza A. village, Paachwa subcounty in Kagadi district as angry residents forcefully evict a man they accuse of masterminding witchcraft.

Two houses were destroyed on Monday evening and three others this morning.

According to reports, the residents accuse Vincent Wasisi Kaahwa of threatening their lives through witchcraft. They also allege that Kaahwa is responsible for the death of three people, all his close friends who died under unclear circumstances.

Omuhereza Ensinukweri, the Gayaza A. local council One Chairperson says the residents started pursuing Kaahwa last Wednesday when he failed to show up at the burial of another resident who died mysteriously.

Ensinukweri says that it was on Monday evening that the residents armed with clubs and machetes raided Kaahwa's home before setting two grass-thatched  houses ablaze.

Kaahwa was not in the house by the time of the raid but his elderly mother was rescued by other people when they saw the mob advancing.

Kaahwa's two wives had reportedly divorced over a year ago as they couldn't stand his actions.

Omuhereza Ensinukweri has condemned the act lawlessness adding that the local leaders were ready to mediate in the matter had it been reported.

Meanwhile, three other houses were dismantled this morning as the mob started targeting the relatives of Kaahwa accusing them of hiding him.

Francis Isoke,  the Officer in charge of Paachwa police post, condemned the act adding that they have started investigations to find out who the masterminds of the attacks were.
No arrests have so far been made but the report has been sent to Kagadi central police station.
