Five Held Over Vehicle Robbery

Five suspects including a former operative attached to the headquarters of the Internal Security Organisation-ISO have been arrest in Mbarara in connection to armed vehicle robbery. The suspects are private RA 164008 Jowali Isabirye, Johnson Kabubi, Abdul Kasim, Johnson Bogere all from Kampala and Moses Mugisha from Mitooma district. The suspects were allegedly picked up after robbing a vehicle at gun point from Ronald Muhabwe, a resident of Mbarara district. They tracked down to Ariwala in the Democratic Republic of Congo-DRC by an operative attached to Mbarara central police station.

During interrogations on Wednesday morning, the suspects confessed stealing vehicles at gun point in Uganda and sneaking them outside the country through Arua to DRC where they have ready market for Ipsum and Premio vehicles. Poly Namaye, the south western regional police publicist says that private Isabirye was convicted by the court martial in 2006 over a similar offense. She says that their records show that the suspects have robbed 15 vehicles within a space of one month.

She says that investigations are still ongoing, adding that the suspects will be presented in court to face charges of robbery.
