Amuriat Loses in Kanyumu Parliamentary Race

Patrick Amuriat Oboi, the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC candidate for the newly created Kanyumu county parliamentary seat in Kumi District, has lost to his NRM rival, Ismail Orot.  
 
Amuriat polled 8,647 votes representing 34.6 percent against Orot's 13,368 votes (52.96%). Monica Ngozi, the Kumi Returning Officer declared Orot, Kanyumu county MP elect this morning at the district headquarters.
 
The other candidates in the race include Simon Okwalinga and Moses Otelu. Okwalinga polled 2,973 votes to come third while Otelu trailed the pack with 254 votes. According to the declaration forms, a total of 25,839 voters participated in the polls.
 
31 votes were invalid. There are 60 polling stations in Kanyumu County. Speaking about the elections, Orot said he was sure of victory. Ismail Orot is the incumbent Kumi district LC V chairperson.
