Falling Tree Kills Luweero Woman

A woman has died on spot and her son injured critically in Luweero district after they were hit by a falling a tree that was being harvested.  The incident occurred on Wednesday at Kyepukulu along Wakinoni-Kikyusa road in Kikyusa Sub County. The deceased has been identified as Sarah Nanfuka, a resident of Wakinoni village.

Nanfuka was riding on a motorcycle with her son when they hit by the tree. Her son escaped with severe injuries and was rushed to Kasana health center IV, where he is admitted. Yonasani Nsereko, an eye witness says no sooner had the victims reached Kyepukulu, than they were hit by a huge tree that was being cut down by unidentified lumberjack.

He says the lumberjack fled into hiding shortly after the incident. Nsereko says they rushed to save the duo but unfortunately found Nanfuka already dead. Her son sustained broken limbs. The motorcycle was severely damaged. The falling tree blocked the road and residents had to struggle to remove it.

The deceased's body was taken to Kasana Health Center IV mortuary for post-mortem. Topher Gimei, the Luweero Criminal Investigations Intelligence Department [CIID] officer says they have commenced
investigations into the tragedy. He suspects negligence on the part of the lumberjack.
