An expectant mother Miriam Angom (28) has died from Lira Pentecostal Church (LPC) health centre IV in Lira district after being induced twice.

Angom died on May 4, 2014.

Angom had checked into the health centre IV on May 1, 2014. She was admitted after she tested positive for Malaria in the care of her husband Geoffrey Okello.

When her condition did not improve, Dr.Eagar Olyel decided to try and save the baby by inducing her to give birth on May 4th.

Angom had been due to give birth on June 22, 2014.

Dr. Eagar decided to induce her for the second time 4:20pm, almost half an hour after the first attempt at 3:45pm.

Angom's husband Okello says he was informed at around 7:15pm that his wife had become unconscious. He was also informed that she was bleeding uncontrollably.

Okello says he was advised by the nurses on duty to opt for a caesarean section (C-section). He was made to sign surgery consent form 10 minutes later in order for her to be operated.

But Dr Eagar, who was supposed to operate on her, was not available and did not turn up until 9:30pm.

By this time, distraught and angry, Okello says he insisted his wife be referred to Lira regional hospital.

LPC heath Centre IV is one of the privately owned and donor funded medical facilities in Lira town founded under the Pentecostal Assembly of God Uganda and is supervised by the Ministry of Health.

Okello says they arrived at the referral hospital at 10:25pm and she died at exactly 10:30pm as nurses were just receiving her.

Okello say a postmortem report obtained from the police indicates that the deceased’s uterus was raptured and she had bled excessively.

Benjamin Okwir, Lira Pentecostal Church health unit administrator, confirmed the incident. He, however, said he had been on leave at the time and will investigate to establish the authenticity of the allegations.
