Sula Serumaga, the former driver of  Mzee Amos Kaguta, the late father to president Yoweri Museveni is battling the National Forestry Authority-NFA in court to recover his Isuzu truck.  In his suite, Serumaga claims that, NFA impounded his Isuzu truck on July 21, 2006 for allegedly ferrying sand illegally from Kyewanga forest reserve in Entebbe.
According to Sserumaga, the truck was being used by GodfreyKibuuka, when it was intercepted and impounded by NFA. He now holds NFA liable for the loss of the truck and wants court to compel the authority to compensate him for the loss since he was using the vehicle to earn a living.
Sserumaga says that he used the 15 million shillings that was given to him by Mzee Amos Kaguta as a token of appreciation for his diligent work to buy the Isuzu truck. He also wants court to order NFA to pay him Shs 150,000 he was earning from hiring out the truck each day from 2006 to date.
However, in its defense, NFA denies any wrongdoing and asks court to dismiss the suite with costs. NFA states that its employees who were in the course of their work; intercepted the truck that was illegally ferrying sand from a forestry reserve but just plucked off its number plates and left it since its driver had fled with its ignition key.
NFA contends that, its employees impounded the truck in line with their statutory mandate to preserve all central forest reserves on behalf of Ugandans. The case is being heard by Justice Elizabeth Musoke.
