Uganda's top player Edwin Ekiring will face Slovenia's Alen Roj in the 2015 Egypt International Open Championship on Sunday.

Ekiring who won bronze at the 2015 All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville last month defeated Rahmat Ridzwan (Malaysia) 21-18, 21-15 in the semi final played in Cairo on Saturday. "I am happy that after reaching the semi finals of the Nigerian Open over a week ago, I have now made it for a final here," Ekiring told URN.

Simon Mugabi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) said it is good for Ekiring to reach the final because he will be able to get several ranking points.

Ekiring who is now ranked top in Africa and 82 by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) is aiming to qualify for his third Olympic Games that will take place in Brazil next year.

Only the top 100 world ranked players automatically qualify for the Olympics, while Africa's number one by May next year will also get a wildcard to make it to the Games. After the Egypt tournament, Ekiring will take part in the Morocco International Open Championships later this month.
