Africa and Uganda's top seed Edwin Ekiring lost in the semi finals of the 2015 Ethiopia International Open that climaxed in Addis Ababa on Sunday.


Ekiring who is now ranked 81 in the world fell to Austria's Luka Wraber 21-13, 21-19. He had earlier stopped two Egyptian players Abdelraman Kashkal and Ahmed Salah in the early rounds.

Wraber who is ranked 53rd in the world lost to Isreal's Misha Ziberman
21-13, 21-19 in the men's final. Another top African player Jacob Maliekal from South Africa who won the Kampala International Open Championships a week ago also lost in the semi final stage.


Uganda's top female player Bridget Shamim Bangi managed to beat Ethiopia's Getachew Firehiwat 21-5, 21-8 in the first round before losing to Kate Foo Kune (Mauritius) 21-15, 12-21, 21-17 in the second round.


Simon Mugabi, the chief executive officer of the Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) said reaching the semi finals who fetch 1750 ranking points for Ekiring, while Bangi will pick 920 points. The two players are struggling to qualify for the 2016 Olympics to take place in Brazil.


Ekiring and Bangi on Monday traveled to Abuja, Nigeria to take part in the Nigerian International Open Championship slated for September 30 to October 3.
