Arab Contractors SC has confirmed participation in the fourth coming inaugural Cecafa Nile Basin Cup Winners Cup.

The Egyptian top League side will be the only guest side that will join other clubs in the Council for East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) region for the event that runs from May 20th to June 5th in Khartoum and Port Sudan.

Nicholas Musonye, the Cecafa Secretary General confirmed this morning to URN on phone from Nairobi that the Egyptian FA had communicated that Arab Contractors SC will take part in the tournament.

Musonye explained that the new tournament is different from the Kagame Club Championship which attracts only League Champions from around the region. Musonye said 14 teams will take part in the tournament, but added that the Democratic Republic of Congo FA had failed to respond to Cecafa’s invitation.

The event sponsored by the Sudan government will be played by teams in the region that won their Knock out Cup tournaments or finished runners up in their respective national leagues. Musonye said this tournament will keep players in the region very busy and also gain International exposure.

Sports Club Victoria University will represent Uganda at the tournament, while AFC Leopards and Azam FC will represent Kenya and Tanzania respectively. The hosts Sudan will enter three teams; El Merreikh, El Shendi FC and Port Sudan FC. The hosts will cater for all the costs of travel and full board accommodation for all teams.
