“Dr. Ogwang has been caretaking the hospital but the substantive Hospital Director has been appointed. He embarks on his duties in the hospital as earlier indicated before he was given responsibility of caretaking the hospital”, he said on phone.
He replaces Dr. Alfred Francis Ogwang, who has been the acting Director Moroto Regional Referral since 2017 when the then Hospital Director, Dr. Filbert Nyeko was interdicted for alleged embezzlement of funds and abuse of office.
Emmanuel Ainebyoona, the Senior Public Relations Officer in the Health Ministry confirmed the deployment of Dr. Watmon to Moroto RRH.
"Dr. Ogwang has been caretaking the hospital but the substantive Hospital Director has been appointed. He embarks on his duties in the hospital as earlier indicated before he was given responsibility of caretaking the hospital", he said on phone.
Ainebyoona, however, declined to reveal what prompted thedevelopments since Dr. Ogwang has been caretaking the hospital for more than two years. Sources within the hospital told URN that Dr. Ogwang is headed to one of the public universities as a senior lecturer.
Sources added that Dr. Phillip Akunguru, one of the staff in the hospital who was recently accused of conducting illegal procedures by removing uteruses without consent, has also been transferred to yet undisclosed place. Dr. Ogwang, when contacted said he waiting for communication from the ministry for changes, if any.
"I am still around, doing my normal duties as an ordinary doctor. If any communication comes to that effect, I will let you know", he said in a text. The changes come just within a month, when the State House Anti- Corruption Unit led by Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema arrested six senior staff in the hospital over alleged misuse of funds, abuse of office and illegal procedures.
They include the Principal Hospital Administrator, Godfrey Mawa, Senior Hospital Administrator, Joseph Otim, Hospital Human Resource Officer, Denis Katinda, Hospital Procurement Officer, Ronald Opio, Hospital Accountant, Joyce Faleya and Dr. Phillip Akunguru.
Although the team resumed their duties in the hospital, PeterKen Lochap, the Resident District Commissioner in Moroto says the officers are still under investigations.
