DPP Chibita says that the 1billion Shillings request was recently submitted to the Ministry of Finance to carter for the security of the officials for the reminder of this financial year . This follows the murder of State Prosecutor Joan Kagezi.
DPP Chibita explained that the money is to specifically cater for the allowances of police officers and transport among other things.
Last month, a senior State Prosecutor Joan Kagezi was shot dead in Kiwatule, a suburb of Kampala as she drove home.
Kagezi was in charge of the International Crime Division in the office of the Director of Public Prosecution, handling crimes such as terrorism, war crimes, and trafficking in persons. She was also working with the Police in the prosecution of those accused of recent killings, robberies and terrorism in Kampala and Busoga.
DPP Chibita had appeared before Parliament's legal and parliamentary affairs committee together with other officials in his office to present their 2015/2016 financial year budget estimates and policy statement.
While before the Committee, DPP Chibita submitted a request of an additional 6.17billion Shilling for the establishment of the prosecutor's academy. But this was rejected by the MPs.
He had noted that the academy is a way of professionalising prosecution services saying that the DPP currently depends on lawyers who have acquired general legal practicing diplomas from the Law Development Centre.
The MPs advised that DPP together with Attorney General's Chambers and Inspectorate of Government to come up with a single academy to train advocated generally hired by government in case they need additional training.

Bugweri County MP, Abdu Katuntu noted that government already established a civil service college saying that the DPP should work with the college and get resource persons.
"Work out a syllabus, give it to the college and then you can always send your staff there, because at the end of the day, finance is going to tell us about resource envelope, it could be cheaper than a multiplicity of institutions which certainly increases the cost of public administration", said Katuntu.
The Deputy Director of Public Prosecution, Amos Ngolobe said the academy is meant for professionalization to help prosecutors acquire skills, and keep them apprised with the new laws and others.
