Finance Minister, Maria Kiwanuka has this morning announced the appointment of Doris Akol as Uganda Revenue Authority's Commissioner General.

Doris Akol, who previously served as the commissioner for legal and board affairs, takes over from Allen Kagina, who is retiring after 10 years of service at the helm of the tax body.

Her appointment ends a 2-year search for the Commissioner General. Two people were interviewed for the position for which, Akol emerged top candidate.

She replaced Jennifer Musisi in 2011 as the commissioner for legal and board affairs.

Speaking after receiving the instrument of appointment rom Kiwanuka, Akol expressed gratitude and commitment to strengthen the foundation built by her predecessor Allen Kagina.

"I am very privileged to be taking over from you Allen Kagina. Thank you that you have found me worthy and fitting to take over this position," she said before adding that; The foundation that Mrs Kagina has laid is a very good and strong foundation that will be built on to increase the momentum of the transformation of Uganda Revenue authority.

Her Four year appointment, in line with section 9 of the URA act, takes effect on November 1st, 2014.

Akol holds a Masters of Law, from McGill University and a postgraduate diploma in financial management.

Akol is the winner of the 2008 ralph Bell Prize, awarded to the best Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) finalist who has completed their chosen syllabus and sits more than one paper in that intake.
