The introduction of FM radio broadcasting was historical because it marked the end of state monopoly of the airwaves. Until then, radio and television broadcasting was the exclusive domain of the state, represented by Radio Uganda and Uganda Television UTV. Today, there are over 300 FM radio stations in Uganda, and the number keeps growing.
