The Uganda Cranes have qualified for the 2016 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) on a 4-0 goal aggregate over Sudan.
Coach Milutin ‘Micho's Sredojevic's team beat hosts Sudan 2-0 at the Khartoum National Stadium on Sunday night. Ceaser Okuthi and skipper Farouk Miya netted first half goals for the Cranes.


It was the Express FC striker Okuthi who netted the opening goal from a corner kick after 43 minutes before Miya made it 2-0 two minutes after. Miya also scored one of the goals in the first leg in Kampala.


The Cranes had been under lots of pressure against the Sudan Falcons, but kept their discipline in defending Uganda's midfielder Ivan Ntege was booked for a bad foul. Later coach Sredojevic brought in the fresh legs of Frank Kalanda, Isaac Muleme and Keziron Kizito.


Uganda also qualified for the 2011 and 2014 CHAN Championships which took place in Sudan and South Africa respectively.


Ethiopia who lost the first leg 2-0 to Burundi became the second country to qualify from the Central East Zone after winning 3-0 in Addis Ababa on Sunday.


The other nations that have already qualified for the 2016 CHAN event to take place in Rwanda January 16 to February 7th include the hosts Rwanda, Morocco, Tunisia, Nigeria, Mali, Guinea, Gabon, Uganda, Zambia, Angola, Zimbabwe and DR Congo. Two more matches will be played to between November 6-8 decide which teams take the remaining two places.
