Construction of UGX 70M Road Excites Hoima Residents

The construction of the 70 million shillings Bugandale-Bujwahya-Kisabagwa road in Kyabigambire sub-county Hoima district has excited residents.

The 12km road has been in sorry state for more than ten years.

Launching the road construction works on Tuesday at Kisabagwa trading centre, Kirungi Kadir, the Hoima LC5 Chairperson attributed the delay to construct the road to financial constraints.

Kadir who doubles as the secretary for works Hoima District asked the residents to closely monitor construction and report any cases of shoddy work.

Julius Ssentamu, the Hoima District Engineer explains that they are to carry out grading, calvert installation, drainage works and spot graveling among others.

In June 2018, residents in the area protested by planting banana suckers on the road as a way of expressing their dissatisfaction over the poor state of the road.

The residents complained that the sorry state of the road had led to the closure of Bugandale Market since they could not access it due to the poor road network.

Nuuha Mwesigwa, the Kisabagwa Parish LC2 Chairperson explains that for the last ten years they faced challenges accessing health services, water and education due to the poor state of the road.

He says that since the road will be worked on, residents will easily transport their Agriculture produce to markets.
