Bwema LC III chairman Drowns in Lake Victoria

 Paul Dhikusoka, the newly elected LC 3 chairman of Bwema Sub County in Buvuma district has drowned in Lake Victoria while trying to evade arrest for illegal fishing. Dhikusoka drowned on Sunday night when he jumped into the lake with two other suspects to avoid arrest by officials of the Beach Management Unit-BMU and police.

 
His body was retrieved from the lake yesterday by residents of Mpuuga landing site in Bugaya Sub County. Stephen Lukomo, a BMU official who led the operation says that, they were on their routine patrol on Lake Victoria when they bumped into Dhikusoka and 19other suspects ferrying 3.5 tons of premature fish.

 
Lukomo says that they seized the boat, removed its engine and ordered the chairman and his team to stop as they continued chasing another boat. He says that when they returned after losing truck of the other boat they found Dhikosoka and the other suspects had rolled away the boat.
 

Lukomo says that they started searching for the boat and found it but  when Dhikusoka saw them he jumped into the lake together with two other people. He says that Dhikusoka and another man only identified as Kasozi drowned.
 

He says that third suspect only identified as Wafula survived. He says that 17 other suspects wee saved from the drowning and taken to Kiyindi landing site in Buikwe district, where they were handed over to police.

 
The suspects are Dhikusoka’s wife Proscovia Nakafeero who is a district councilor for Bwema sub-county. She also holds a post on the district executive as the secretary for gender and community based services.



Some of the suspects are Ivan Ocheng , Mike Kwaja, Ronald Kawuulu , Ibrah Badambo, Mohammad Kiseebe, Dirisa Mubiru , Ahmed Ogajo , and Joseph Wanyama.   Carolyn Akoth, Buvuma district Police Commander says that the suspects will be charged with trafficking immature fish.
 
Adrian Ddungu, the LC V chairman of Buvuma district is dismayed about the conduct of the deceased leader. Ddungu says that Dhikusoka didn’t act in an exemplary manner saying that they have advocating for the ban on illegal fishing saying that it weird that another leader is arrested over a similar crime.
