Bus Operators, Vendors Defy Directive to Vacate Soroti Bus Park

Bus operators and vendors in Soroti Bus Park have defied a directive from Soroti Municipality to vacate the park to pave way for reconstruction work. 



On February 10th 2015, Richard Eyaru, the Assistant Town Clerk in charge of Eastern Division gave the Bus operators and vendors 14 days to vacate the Bus park land.
 
In his letter, Eyaru notified the Bus operators and vendors that they will not receive any other notification. However, the operators wrote back to the town clerk on February 12 through their chairperson Siraj Mugalula requesting for six months to allow them relocate their business.
 
In their letter, the Bus operators and vendors stated that they were not opposed to the development but complained about the short time given saying it is so short yet most of them are surviving on loans. However, the municipality didn't respond to the letter.
 
On March 17, 2015, the Town Clerk Soroti Municipality Peter Masiko wrote another letter giving the Bus Operators and Vendors 14 days to vacate the Bus Park or else the municipality council proceeds to demolish the old structures without further notice.
 
He directed the town clerk to take action. Siraj Mugalula, the Chairperson Soroti Bus Park Vendor's Association says despite not receiving a reply from the municipality they saw enforcement officers demolishing the old lodge structures.

Emmanuel Okinyom, an employee of Kakise Bus Company says that they have been allocated any alternative place to operate from during the time of construction.

Ali Ongada, a Gateway Bus employee says that they received a letter asking them to vacate the park to paveway for reconstruction work. He however, says they have not moved because they were allocated an alternative area to operate from.
 
Peter Masiko, the town clerk Soroti Municipal council says they intend to relocate Buses to Soroti Taxi Park on a date he didn't specify.
