Senegal, one of the favorites to challenge for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) title will be without key winger Saido Mane who features for Southampton in the English Premier League. Mane has been injured.

The news released by the Southampton coach, Ronald Koeman on Sunday is a big blow to the Senegal team that was looking forward to utilize the winger in the tournament which takes place January 17 to Febraury 8 in Equatorial Guinea.

Mane who previously played with ex-Uganda Cranes skipper Ibrahim Sekagya at Red Bull Salzburg in Austria before joining Southampton has been in excellent form. He scored in the 1-1 draw against Chelsea and in the 2-0 win over Arsenal on Boxing Day.

Koeman confirmed on Sunday after the team's 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town in an FA Cup tie that Mane will be out between 4-6 weeks with a calf injury.

Mane reportedly suffered the injury during the team's 2-0 win over Arsenal where he was substituted three minutes before halftime in the match. Kenya team skipper Victor Wanyama also features for Southampton.

Senegal's Head Coach Alian Giresse will now have to pick another midfielder to replace the industrious Mane. The other midfielders names on the squad include; I drissa Gana Gueye, Salif Sane, Stephane Badji, Cheikhou Kouyaté, Alfred Ndiaye and Pape Diop Quli.

The Lions of Teranga are pooled in a Group of death that has South Africa, Ghana and the in-form Desert Warriors of Algeria.
