Uganda’s top badminton player Edwin Ekiring is expected in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Wednesday to take part in the Ethiopia Open International Championship.

Ekiring, who won silver at the All Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique last month, told URN on Tuesday night on phone from his base in Holland, that he is more than ready to play his heart out to be able to secure points that will help him qualify for the 2012 London Olympics.

Ekiring lost in the second round of the men’s singles at the Dutch Open International last week but now says he working hard to qualify for the 2012 Olympics, describing the event as the greatest stage for any sportsman.
 
The talented Ekiring, who started playing badminton at the Sharing Youth Centre over 13 years ago, said he has been training hard and expects to reach the final of the Ethiopia Open International Championship sanctioned by the World Badminton body.

National assistant coach William Kabindi told URN that they would have wanted to send local based players Wilson Tukire, Shamim Bangi and Margaret Nankabirwa as well if they had the funds.
