Arua NRM Candidates Want Joint Rallies Re-instated

Several candidates contesting for the different political positions under the National Resistant Movement (NRM) ticket are complaining and blaming the NRM offices in Arua for stopping joint campaigns.
 

When campaigns kicked off, candidates were asked to conduct joint rallies but later a communication was made late last week suspending the arrangement.
 

Candidates are now traversing their areas to conduct campaigns on individual basis.
 

Philip Obeti, the NRM registrar Arua told URN the joint rallies were stopped following a directive from the NRM secretariat.
 

According to Obeti, some candidates are now using the individual rallies to de-campaign and insult their opponents.
 

Engineer Gabriel Ajedra Aridru, who shifted from Arua Municipality to Vurra constituency says, stopping joint rallies makes opponents spread rumors on other candidates.

Dr. Sam Okuonzi, the incumbent MP for Vurra constituency says, he would love to use joint rallies to present to people his credentials and what he has achieved in the last four and half years.
 

He however says, if the party office has taken a decision to suspend joint rallies, he isn't worried since it gives him opportunity to present his programs to the electorate.

Wadri Sam Nyakua, the incumbent LCV chairman Arua in response says, the individual rallies is an avenue for opponents to destroy the image of their colleagues. He says, the joint campaigns were good to clarify on issues were opponents were bad-mouthing on their colleagues.

"I want the party to reinstate joint rallies so that, cases of voter bribery, destruction of posters and bad-mouthing other candidates is minimized.
 
Currently, the candidates are conducting rallies on individual basis based on their own schedules.
